TIM ribchester
Recognized for his “passionate commitment to the composer and score... elegant sense of shape… perfected technique [and] a personal aesthetic vision,” Maestro Tim Ribchester is emerging internationally as an inspiring, versatile conductor and vocal coach. Returning to the faculty of Italy’s Trentino Music Festival (also known as Music Academy International) for the fourth year, in previous seasons he conducted the festival’s productions of Dido and Aeneas, L’incoronazione di Poppea, and Rinaldo in addition to concert appearances with the Festival Orchestra and Chamber Music program. Currently Music Director of the Shakespeare Concerts Boston, he served in 2015-16 as Assistant/Cover Conductor for North Carolina Opera’s productions of Eugene Onegin and Das Rheingold, and was guest Vocal Coach at the 2017 Indemini Festival, Switzerland.
Other recent appearances include debuts with Vidin Sinfonietta, Bulgaria and Bacau Philharmonic, Romania, and Les Contes d’Hoffmann in Gidon Saks’s staging at the Delphi Stummfilmkino Berlin. In previous seasons, Tim has led rehearsals of the orchestra of the Komische Oper Berlin, Baltimore and Boulder Chamber Orchestras, the Richmond Symphony Chorus, the Academy of Vocal Arts Chorus, and Opera Philadelphia Chorus, as well as repetiteur and recital work for Opera Philadelphia, Lyric Opera Baltimore, the Philadelphia Orchestra, and Kammersolisten der Deutsche Oper Berlin. He completed a two season contract as Music Director of Delaware County Symphony (Pennsylvania) while serving for five years as faculty repetiteur and Assistant Conductor at the Academy of Vocal Arts, and conducting many contemporary music premieres at the Curtis Institute of Music while developing his vocal coaching style and studio in Philadelphia. He assisted conductors including Christofer Macatsoris, Timothy Myers, Steven White, and Yannick Nézet-Séguin, and stage directors Tito Capobianco, Nic Muni, and David Gately.
Based since 2015 in Berlin, he has established a vocal coaching studio at the new Proberäume Stephanssaal, preparing roles, auditions, and concert repertoire for international artists; acts as guest accompanist for the voice studios of Deborah Polaski and John Norris; offers repertoire-specific young artist workshops with stage director Detlef Soelter; and collaborates internationally on ensemble projects with Argentine tango musicians and as the official audition pianist for Philadelphia’s concert soloist agency Astral Artists. He is featured as conductor on the forthcoming contemporary vocal music album Summer's Distillation, and as pianist on the critically acclaimed CDs The Russian Cello and the soundtrack to Park Chan-Wook’s cinematic masterpiece The Handmaiden.
Passionate about the thorough training of pre-professional young artists as well as his ongoing work with internationally recognized opera singers, Tim offers competitive hourly rates, plus discounted packages for those who can commit to a regular schedule of repertoire coaching each month. He is also available for recordings and collaborates frequently with local video and audio producers.
